Michèle Mazzocco
Michèle M. Mazzocco is Professor at the Institute of Child Development at the University of Minnesota and Director of the University of Minnesota’s Math and Numeracy Lab. Dr. Mazzocco’s research focuses on typical and atypical mathematics achievement trajectories, numerical cognition in children and adults, and mathematics learning disabilities. She is currently focusing on how early learning experiences shape children’s emerging number concepts and individual differences in children’s number knowledge and computational skills. Dr. Mazzocco had a continuously funded ten-year longitudinal study of cognitive correlates of mathematics disabilities from which she continues to draw data for secondary analyses. As a former classroom teacher she is particularly interested in the practical implications of her work for supporting mathematical thinking in young children and in children with mathematics learning difficulties.
